George J. Igel &
Co., Inc. was the first contractor to employ Dynamic Compaction as a
construction method in Central Ohio. Since the
first project, we have performed deep dynamic compaction all around
Ohio for various owners and engineers.
In this process,
deep soil compaction of unconsolidated material is achieved using a
crane-mounted weight (12 tons), "free fall" dropped from a specific
height in a pattern on the building area. The impact of the
weight creates a densified zone suitable for building loads. A
geotechnical engineer will monitor the process and certify the
resultant load bearing soil with post-dynamic testing.
Dynamic Compaction
can be used as a cost-saving alternative in lieu of removal and replacement of the unconsolidated
material.
